2010: AN OLD HOLLYWOOD AFFAIR
On May 1st, 2010, Fashion Fighting Famine rolled out the red carpet for an evening of glamorous fashion, jaw-dropping performances, and a bustling bazaar! Over 700 women attended “An Old Hollywood Affair,” a charity fashion show dedicated to the women and children in Mali. Our runway featured designed hijabs by Vela, evening-wear by Layla Jalanbo Originals, and street-wear by TreyQ, among others. We raised thousands of dollars for the Widow’s Cooperative micro-loan program, an amazing endeavor that provides widowed women with the opportunity to gain an education, including reading, writing, accounting, and even using computers. They are then given micro-loans that allow them to start up their own successful businesses to support their families and contribute to their communities. View our event trailer here! |
2009: A THOUSAND & ONE ARABIAN NIGHTS Fashion Fighting Famine mixed things up and hosted a “1001 Arabian Nights”-themed prom-style party. Benefits went to the ILM Foundation, a non-profit organization catering to the underserved citizens in our local communities in Los Angeles, CA. Highlights of the action-packed evening included a guerilla fashion show that took everyone by surprise, a “Jai Ho” inspired performance, and Moroccan inspired décor that swept the crowd off its feet. |
2007: PALESTINE Fashion Fighting Famine’s debuted by hosting a charity fashion show for Palestine, featuring local Muslim designers at a community center in Irvine. The event drew out about 400 ladies in attendance, and all proceeds were donated to Palestine through Islamic Relief, a five-star charity organization recognized by the United Nations. |
