MISSION

Fashion Fighting Famine (FFF) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a unique blend of fashion and charity dedicated to empowering women, fostering sisterhood, encouraging ambition, and furthering the art of modest fashion.

VALUES

At FFF, we are committed to:
  • Providing a sphere for young women to exercise their creative ambitions and develop their skills
  • Diversifying the standard definition of beauty. The models on our runway are from all body types and ethnic and racial backgrounds
  • Empowering charitable projects in our community
  • Furthering Muslim-American involvement in arts & culture by supporting emerging Muslim fashion designers
  • Creating a platform to promote Muslim and modest designers to develop their brands and become successful entrepreneurs

OUR WORK
// Fashion Shows

Since 2007, FFF has produced an annual charity fashion show that has grown to an international scale, drawing hundreds of women across Southern California and guests from all over the world. FFF has established itself as the primary source for modest and Muslim fashion design in the United States and has been featured in the BBC, Los Angeles Times, The Huffington Post, LA Weekly, KCET and more.

The FFF 6th Annual Fashion Show was held on March 31, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Irvine, California, and featured a live performance with Yuna Zarai and close to 1,000 guests in attendance.

Our model and team experience is integral to our values as it provides a space for women to exercise entrereneurship & various skills in a team-oriented environment, and is a healthy space for fostering sisterhood built on a shared commitment to charity and community.

// Fashion Design Seminars

In our effort to support aspiring and emerging designers, FFF has introduced a Fashion Design Seminar to connect designers with the knowledge they need to create successful businesses in the fashion industry. Topics include developing a business plan, how to source materials & factories, determining product costs, and advanced subjects including trade shows and fashion shows.

// #ChallengeBeauty Series & Campaign

The FFF #ChallengeBeauty Series is a talk show that features panelists of various backgrounds discussing a series of topics related to women’s empowerment, and takes place at the annual fashion show events. The series is connected to FFF’s new #ChallengeBeauty Campaign, launched in February 2014, aimed at fostering conversation around how beauty is constructed socially and commercially, and how various women relate to and experience these constructions in their daily lives. The campaign goal is to create awareness, nuanced understanding, and sisterhood around topics such as body image and self-image that affect people on a daily basis.
// #EidStyle Campaign

#EIDSTYLE is an international campaign founded by Fashion Fighting Famine to showcase Eid holiday celebrations across the globe, capturing the diverse beauty of Eid festivities through the eyes of fashion. It is Sunnah (tradition of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him) to dress up in the best clothes available, whether new or clean old ones, among other traditions. The FFF #Eidstyle Campaign has received thousands of submissions from across the globe.

HISTORY

Since 2007, FFF has hosted an annual charity fashion show drawing hundreds of women across Southern California and guests from all over the nation. Fashion Fighting Famine began as an event titled "Fashion Fighting Famine” and was organized by a young group of Muslim women based in Irvine, California. Inspired by a desire to support charity in a unique way, they began hosting an event featuring the work of local and talented performances by community members. In 2010, Executive Producers Nida Chowdhry and Asmaa Hassanein founded FFF as an organization and developed the goals, mission, and values in place today.
