On Monday, June 17, 2013, Fashion Fighting Famine joined a group, including the mayor and city council members of the City of Hawthorne, in a tour of the Anaheim Family Justice Center, where FFF delivered a donation of $11,000 to New Star Family Center. The donation to New Star Family Center from the Fashion Fighting Famine 2013 Fashion Show was made possible by our amazing volunteers, talented designers, and beautiful audience. We were honored and humbled to take part in a tour that explored the invaluable services that New Star Family Center, in conjunction with the Anaheim Family Justice Center, provide to the neighboring community. The center provides a one-stop location that provides every imaginable service to domestic violence victims, including temporary restraining orders, child care, counseling, immediate setup to access food stamps, shelter and clothing, legal services, police protection, and more. Domestic violence is highly underreported within the Arab and Muslim populations in the Southern California community. New Star Family Center provides valuable counseling services in the Arabic, Urdu, and English languages to domestic violence victims, and also aids in placing Muslim children within the foster care and adoption system with Muslim families.
We would like to thank the inspiring team at New Star Family Center and the Anaheim Family Justice Center for their dedication to preserving families in our community. |
